長々

ながなが【長々】

1 〔長時間〕 very long; at great length; lengthily; 〔冗長に〕 tediously.

●長々と 15 分間(も) for a (very) long fifteen minutes; for 15 minutes that seemed like they'd never end

・長々と話す[述べる] speak for a long time [at length] about [on] 《a subject》; dwell [dilate] on 《a subject》; enlarge [expound, expatiate, elaborate] on 《a subject》; ramble (on) about 《a subject》; 《口》 go on and on about 《a subject》

・長々と言い訳を述べる offer a lengthy apology; apologize at length

・長々とお説教をたれる preach [lecture] sb at great length 《about [on]…》; scold sb for a long time 《about…》; give sb a lengthy scolding [telling-off].

●彼は長々とその問題を論じた. He dwelled [elaborated] on the subject at great length.

・長々お世話になりました. Thank you for all of the kindness you've shown me over the years. | I am truly grateful for all of the help you have given me over the years.

2 〔体や手足を伸ばして〕 at full length.

●長々と横になる lie at full length; stretch out completely

・足を長々と伸ばす stretch (out) one's legs at full length [completely].

●彼は地面に長々と寝そべっていた. He was lying flat [stretched (out)] on the ground.
